Pharmacological interventions fascinated me, which turned my curiosity into a genuine intellectual excitement driven by hard work. This experience motivated my decision to pursue a master’s degree and a doctoral degree in pharmacology at Georgetown University, where I expanded my scientific foundation, strengthened my research skills, and knowledge about pharmacology.
My academic journey cultivated a profound interest in research, particularly through my work in Dr. Shaida Andrabi’s laboratory. Under the mentorship of Dr. Andrabi and Dr. Hossain, I investigated the effects of trehalose on neuroinflammation in microglial cells.
These experiences deepened my interest in neurodegeneration and introduced me to the challenge of developing pharmacological strategies for diseases currently lacking effective cures.
Along with my previous study, I was particularly drawn to the research directions of Dr. Chu, Dr. Pak, and Dr. Wang at Georgetown University, whose investigations into reducing insoluble protein aggregates, regulating homeostatic plasticity, and maintaining neural homeostasis strongly align with my interests.
Also, during my master’s program at Georgetown University, my involvement in Dr.Vicini’s laboratory introduced me to seizure research. As my mentor worked with Dr. Forcelli’s lab very closely, Dr. Forcelli’s work on neural circuitry underlying seizure propagation and pharmacological treatments for neonatal seizures—combined with such as kindling and behavioral assays such as elevated plus maze testing—deepened my appreciation for the complexity of brain networks and disease mechanisms.
