Hiba Douja Chehade

Hiba Douja Chehade holds a BS in Biochemistry and both an MS and PhD in Neuroscience, all earned in her home country, Lebanon. Her doctoral research investigated the neural circuits of nociception and the use of neurostimulation as a therapeutic approach for neuropathic pain. In 2022, she relocated to the USA to pursue a postdoctoral position in the Chu Lab. Her current research focuses on neural circuits alterations underlying motor skills decline in the context of Parkinson’s disease and dopamine depletion. Her expertise encompasses a diverse range of techniques, including stereotaxic surgery, in vivo electrophysiology, in vivo calcium imaging, behavioral neuroscience, neuromodulation methods, and data analysis. Hiba is particularly interested in exploring neural circuits in both health and disease, as well as the various applications of neuromodulation. She believes in open science, in collaborative work between scientists of all disciplines and most importantly in making scientific knowledge accessible to the public. During her PhD, she participated in several science popularization events and competitions, and one of her goals today is to pursue this approach in her career as a scientist.
