Ajay Uprety

Dr. Uprety’s research, done in the Ostroumov Lab, focuses on understanding changes to gabaergic signaling in Parkinson’s Disease. He studies the impact that KCC2 down-regulation has on hyperexcitability and burst activity within the Substantia Nigra Pars Reticulata. Dr. Uprety use a combination of electrophysiological recording techniques, such as patch clamp and In Vivo multi-single unit recordings with silicon probes. He performs a variety of behavioral testing paradigms to explore changes in learning, cognitive states and motor function. To better explore behavioral changes in the parkinsonian state and pharmacological manipulations, Dr. Uprety uses machine learning approaches to analyze data such as DEEPLABCUT and Keypoint-Moseq.
