Willian Lazarini-Lopes

Willian Lazarini-Lopes, received a bachelor’s in Biology in the University of São Paulo and a master’s and Ph.D. in Neuroscience (University of São Paulo, Brazil). During his undergrad and master’s research, he performed systemic and central pharmacological manipulations to investigate the role of serotonin and corticosterone signaling on anxiety and depression. During his Ph.D. he investigated the role of the endocannabinoid system on seizure susceptibility and how cannabidiol can be used to control seizures in different models of genetic epilepsy. Dr. Lazarini-Lopes joined the Department of Pharmacology & Physiology at Georgetown University in January 2023 as a postdoctoral researcher in Dr. Patrick Forcelli’s lab. His current research is focused on epilepsy and neuropsychiatric comorbidities. He uses optogenetic, pharmacological, electrophysiology, and behavioral techniques to study and control neuronal activity in structures and networks involved with seizure manifestation.
