Endowed & Named Positions
Schering Professor of Pharmacology
In 1966, the Schering-Plough Corporation and Foundation established the first-ever endowed professorship at Georgetown University, in memory of Schering-Plough’s late chairman Francis Cabell Brown (L’23). Currently held by Kenneth Kellar, Ph.D., the Schering Foundation Professorship in Pharmacology is the oldest endowed professorship at the university, where it has had a transformative impact.
Jerome H. Fleisch and Marlene L. Cohen Endowed Professor of Pharmacology
This endowment was established through the generous gift of Drs. Jerome Fleisch (G’67) and Marlene Cohen. Dr. Fleisch graduated from Georgetown with a Ph.D. in Pharmacology in 1967. He conducted postdoctoral research at Harvard prior to joining the Public Health Service as a Staff Scientist at the NIH. Dr. Cohen graduated from the University of California San Francisco with a Ph.D. in Pharmacology & Toxicology in 1973, and conducted postdoctoral research at the Roche Institute of Molecular Biology. Drs. Fleisch and Cohen joined Lilly Research Labs in 1974 and 1975, where they worked for over 25 years, prior to retiring in 2002. The department is deeply grateful for the generosity and support of Drs. Fleisch and Cohen in establishing this endowed professor position. The inaugural holder of this position is Patrick Forcelli, Ph.D.
Barry B. Wolfe Director of Graduate Studies in Pharmacology & Physiology
In 2024, the Department named the Directorship of the Ph.D. Program in Pharmacology & Physiology for Dr. Barry B. Wolfe, who served as a Professor in the department from 1989 until his passing in 2019. Wolfe directed the Ph.D. program in Pharmacology for all thirty years. Our Ph.D. program is celebrating its 90th year of training students this year. Since its founding in 1934, we have awarded 180 Ph.D.s in Pharmacology. During his three decades as Director of our Ph.D. Program, Wolfe played a key role in training two-thirds of these graduates. The Wolfe Director of Graduate Studies fund supports student activities, travel to conferences, faculty-student engagement, and supports the Director of the Ph.D. Program.
