Pharmacology 510

Spring semester  –  2 Credits

This course will cover the history, culture, pharmacology, use and abuse of a number of psychoactive drugs. The format is interactive. To promote discussion, students are asked to prepare and distribute background material one week before leading the discussion of their chosen topic. During the semester each student is required to lead a discussion of at least one specific drug and to participate in the discussions of the other drugs presented each week. The drugs that are relevant to this course, include: Hallucinogens–e.g., psilocibin, mescaline, LSD, salvia divinorum, ibogaine; Stimulants–e.g., cocaine, amphetamines, ecstasy; Dissociatives-e.g., PCP and ketamine; Marijuana and other cannabinoids.

This course will meet at 5:00 -7:00 p.m. on a day to be determined. This course is given ‘on demand’ and needs to have 4-5 interested students ask for the course (ask in the fall for spring).  Contact Dr. Ken Kellar to arrange this course.
