                       Pharmacology Timeline

Summer 1 -  Enter July 1
    
Select Summer Rotation by early June
     What are the
expectations of the rotations?
    
Orientation sessions are held by the Department and
          the Graduate School in early July
   
 In early July fill out the Pre-Research Rotation Form
      (note that this 1st rotation form is different than 2nd
       and 3rd rotations)

 Fall 1  -  ~September 1
     Sign up for
Courses in August
     Fill out
Post-Rotation Form for summer rotation in Sept
    
Attend Courses, Seminar and Journal Club
   
 Second Rotation (submit Pre-Rotation Form) should
     start ~Sept 1
     Prepare
Post-Rotational talk for early Sept
 
     Sign up for spring Courses in  October

Spring 1  -  ~January 1
     Attend Courses,
Seminar and Journal Club
     Sign up for fall
Courses in  April, if necessary    
     Prepare
Post-Rotational talk for April-May
      Fill out
Post-Rotation Form for second rotation in May
   
  Third Rotation (Pre-Rotation Form) should start ~ May
 
Summer 2 -  ~June 1
         Prepare
PostRotational talk covering third rotation
         Fill out
Post-Rotation Form for third rotation
        Written and Oral comprehensive exam before Sept
                                             
handbook for rules (exam FORM)
         Write NRSA (for Aug 5th, Dec 5th or April 5th)

Fall 2  -  ~September 1
     Begin thesis research
     Advanced Pharmacology
    
Other Courses  -  only if necessary
     Attend Courses, Seminar and Journal Club
  
Spring 2  -  ~January 1
   
     Complete Advance to Candidacy Form
       
Attend  Seminar and Journal Club  
   
     Continue thesis research
    
Summer 3 -  July 1
     Thesis research full time
     Attend Seminar and Journal Club
     Organize
Thesis Committee and get approval


Fall 3   
     Give your annual seminar and have the first meeting of
          your thesis committee at which you present your
          Thesis proposal. Submit this to the Graduate School.
     Discuss with your mentor and your committee plans for your                first manuscript submission
    
     Then send in your thesis committee meeting FORM
     Attend Seminar and Journal Club

Spring 3
    
   Continue Thesis Research
       Attend
Seminar and Journal Club

Summer/Fall/Spring 4 etc.
    
Thesis committee meets every year (FORM) coincident with  your
         Annual seminar
     Expect to
submit your first manuscript before the end of your
          4th year
     Attend Seminar and Journal Club

Completion
    
1. Schedule a Thesis Defense Seminar
              First with Gerard (for approval), then
Barry (for room
               & website)

     2.
Thesis Reviewers Report is due >1 week prior to defense
         Note, at the bottom of the form it tells you to email your abstract  to
gradacadaffrs@georgetown.edu and include your full name, title of your dissertation using the word DISSERTATION in the subject line.
     3. Get
Thesis Ballot
and Thesis Cover Sheet signed at defense
    
4.  After completing the corrections, submit thesis electronically
     5.  Now you have to turn in the ETD form (Electronic Thesis
           & Defense)
     6.  Also the
SED form (Survey of Earned Doctorates)

Note:  The Graduate School does not want YOU to turn in the Thesis Ballot personally.   Get an official person to do it.
